Red or green: Overprinting of the climatic signal in Miocene sediments, South China Sea (<scp>IODP</scp> Expedition 368, Site <scp>U1502</scp>)

چکیده

Sedimentary beds of alternating red and green colour are commonly interpreted to reflect orbitally-forced cyclic climatic, syn-depositional conditions, although changes caused by post-depositional fluids also documented. Results from IODP Hole U1502A marine sediments in the South China Sea exemplify reducing fluid–rock interactions that locally changed sediment green. Petrographic, rock magnetic paleomagnetic data on cores show colouration originates an early, basin-wide, pervasive diagenetic oxidation event (forming haematite), whereas results subsequent fluid-driven reduction pyrrhotite-magnetite). The dense sulfidic stockwork basaltic basement underlying these was likely source fluids. Drilling deep holes into basin basements can thus provide useful information fluid transfer overlying sedimentary layers.

Heavy metals in coastal sediments of South Caspian Sea: natural or anthropogenic source?

This paper focuses on heavy metal distribution patterns in sediments of central Guilan (CG) and east Mazandaran (EM) in the south Caspian Sea coasts, north of Iran. Sediment sub-samples were retrieved from core and surficial samples in different environments of marine and coastal lagoons as well as coastal outcrops. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and Atomic Emission Spectrometry (...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Status of Rocks in the Law of the Sea with Relying on the South China Sea Arbitration Award

Abstract Islands and rocks are entitled different maritime zones in international law of the sea. Article 121(3) allocated to rocks has articulated briefly and without indicating any definitions or characters of this feature. Paragraph 3 provided two conditions for rocks in order to create exclusive economic zone and continental shelf zone. The South China Sea tribunal has interpreted this pa...

Tidal dynamics and mangrove carbon sequestration during the Oligo–Miocene in the South China Sea

Modern mangroves are among the most carbon-rich biomes on Earth, but their long-term (≥106 years) impact on the global carbon cycle is unknown. The extent, productivity and preservation of mangroves are controlled by the interplay of tectonics, global sea level and sedimentation, including tide, wave and fluvial processes. The impact of these processes on mangrove-bearing successions in the Oli...
